Sleep Apnea

Do you wake up feeling tired? Patients who are exhausted no matter how hard they try to get a good night’s sleep may be suffering from sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea causes lingering headaches and a lack of focus. If you are a sleep apnea suffer, Dr. Zachary Streit can enhance your quality of life with conservative sleep apnea treatments.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder that occurs when the throat muscles relax and block the air passage while you sleep. When this happens, the brain fires a signal to wake you up and kick-start breathing.

Even though these awakenings may happen frequently, they are extremely brief. If the patient falls asleep quickly after, they will not likely remember these episodes in the morning.

Loud, chronic snoring is the most apparent sign of sleep apnea.  Over time, sleep apnea can increase your risk for:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Weight gain
  • Car and equipment accidents

Sleep Apnea Edmonds

Visiting your dentist for a sleeping disorder may not be your first thought, but dentists have an extensive understanding of the way the jaw, throat, and tongue positioning affect breathing during sleep.

We offer specialized oral appliances to our sleep apnea patients. Similar to athletic mouth guards, these convenient appliances keep the airway open during sleep. They keep the jaw relaxed and properly positioned, or prevent the tongue from falling backward.

Our custom appliances are small, comfortable, easy to wear, and perfect for travel.
